Startup Definition & Certification
A Startup is a recently established company, characterized by rapid growth, agility and innovation, and aims to introduce or develop new products or services or business models into the market
The initial certification is valid for three years, after which it is renewed every two years, and up to seven years from the company’s date of establishment. In the event of an appeal, the company may submit a request to the independent legal committee formed within the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), subject to a refundable fee upon acceptance of the appeal, to ensure seriousness of submission.
Mechanism for obtaining startup certification
Through Two Paths

Designated for startups nominated by accredited supporting entities. Such as venture capital funds or business incubators and accelerators.
The certification is issued automatically within five working days upon completion of the required documentation.

Available to all eligible startups for which Applications are reviewed by an assessment committee of government entities and the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The review process includes verification of core documentation, assessment of compliance with certification criteria, and a final decision on the application.
